PostSubject: Mario Kart Wii Porting   Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:25 pm

Hello there everyone my name is Apple,

I am a very close friend of MrBean35000vr (Robert) but have not had the honour to meet his brother Chadderz (Alex)

Well I post this topic today because I am interested in porting a track from the DS and other consols to Mario Kart Wii. I have a few things I need help with:

1: What programs should I have to extract the files from my ISO

2: How do I seperate polygons in 3DS Max.

Thanks alot and have a wonderful day/evening.

You need a MKDS ROM.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need Tahaxan. sendspace.com onfpu8

OR

You need DS Lazy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those programs extract files from rom.

3DS Question:

Just select faces (multiple by hold ctrl while selecting) and move them around... i guess..

1: extract the MKDS ROM with ds lazy or something similar.
use narctool to extract the carc file.

2: don't know, I don't have 3ds max.

I have DS Scrubber. It's VERY easy to use narctool for converting. Smile

Hi Apple. There's a thread about mkds, mkdd, mk64 porting but ok. I use Tahaxan to open the MKDS rom. Then i extract the "course".carc . Now i open cmd and then i write the path where narctool and the .carc file is. For example: cd C:\Documents and Properties\User\Desktop\narctool.exe .Now you have the path added to narctool.exe .Now write narctool.exe d "name of the course".carc "new name of the course".narc .Now you willl see that a new file got created. This is the .narc file. Now wirte in cmd: narctool.exe u "name of the course".narc "folder name that you wish" Now a folder got created. Open it and you will see some files and a course_model.nsbmd .Start 3DVIA printscreen and select a hotkey in the properties now drag the course_model.nsbmd in nsbmd tool and and press the 3DVIA Hotkey. A .3dxml file got created. Now you have 2 options to edit the model:

1 option: Install the 3ds max plugin and open the .3dxml file

2 option: Create a account on 3DVIA.com and upload the .3dxml file. Then download the file as .dae file and you can import it in Google SketchUp and edit it.

BTW: cd means that when a path before was C:\Programs but you want a other path you make the cd befor the new path

First, I rip the CARC with Tahaxan. Then I use Puyo Tools to decompile the CARC into multiple, nameless files. About 20 files, they're numbered. One of then is course_model.nsmbd. Usually the bigger one.
Then I open it in nsbmd.exe, making sure that OpenGL32 is the modeldump one. I choose screencap as the renderer. The track will appear in nsbmd.exe. Press Scroll Lock, and it dumps a OBJ file. It's a bunch of random polygons. I open it in metasequoia, press Align Faces, then save. I import that OBJ file in Google Sketchup, and there is my track.

It's better because there's no need for CMD, no need for 3DVIA printscren, no need for 3DSMAX. The three needed programs are few megabytes in size and can be easily downloaded

Cool, but my Graphics Card doesn't support OpenGL so I can't do it that way.

I tried your way to see if this is easier for me so when i open puyo tools then Archive>Extractor>Select Files .What then? When i don't change anything then they extract a folder with files from 1-14. But no .nsbmd format

Yes. It extract files numbered from 1 to 14. One of then IS in NSBMD format. Usually file 00. Rename it to course_model.nsbmd. If it doesn't work in nsbmd.exe, try file 01. Then try file 02.
